The birds here watch us all the time. We have a mockingbird who owns our backyard. (he settled in on a homestead exemption loophole) We can’t go outside without at least saying hello and preferably bringing a biscuit.
Local birds do learn your schedule. If we don’t get bird breakfast out on time, the “sentry dovie” glares from the highest point of the roof….just try to back out without serving up the meal….
Post created that mood…
I have regular communion with a Black Phoebe. She sits on the furniture in our backyard and definitely makes eye contact. I like the tone of this poem….the yellow-eyed bird has the best vantage point!

Thank you Debra – I was just tidying things up and came across it and thought it deserved an airing!
